Is it okay to use 140 Watt speakers for a receiver that uses 100 Watt speakers?
I bought a home theater receiver online. I now have to purchase speakers. Is it okay to buy speakers that are a little over 100 watts? Or should I buy speakers that are exactly 100 Watts?
What about 110 watt speakers? They seem to be common too?
actually it wont ruin the reciver at all i have 2 100watt speakers hooked into my reciver when it says 100watts on the speaker that mean it can HANDLE up to 100 watts before it blows all to hell (actually u can push around 50 watts more out of em) the thing that you want to look at is the impedance if the amp is rated for 8ohms and the speakers are 8 ohms then it will only draw 100watts MAX from the amp but if you used 4ohms speakers on a 100watts at 8 ohms you would draw 200watts from the amp but honestly an ampm can handle more then it says it can such as i have drawn 300 watts from a 105watt output before by hooking very low impedance speakers (ohms is impedance) to it dont worry about it it will b fine
