Been to New York? Suggestions...?
My daughter (13) and I are planning a summer trip to The Big Apple and would like advice on cool/fun things to do, things to see, places to stay, places to eat. Or even things not to do / waste our time on. We crave excitement like rides, strange foods and wicked , cheap second hand (vintage) stuff. We are not into boring museums or stuffy art galleries, although we don't mind some of the contemporary/abstract stuff that plays with your senses!
If you can't tell us the good stuff then tell us about any dangers (aside from the obvious) that out-of-towners might not be aware of.
PS: I collect old Fisher Price Toys so if you know any good places to buy those, that info would be helpful too. Thanks a bunch!!
Judging by your interests, I'd say China Town would be a good investment. They have many strange types of foods there (at least, strange to me- an Irish girl living in California), as well as rip-offs of many top-notch brands such as Prada, Juicy Couture, and Louis Vuitton, among others. In order to shop for such brands of purses, though, you'll have to go up to the shop owners and ask them if they have any 'other purses' or any 'other jewelry.' And plus, China Town is cheap. And if something there isn't as cheap as you want it to be, just barter with the people selling whatever it is you wish to purchase. Trust me, it really works.
It is also a good idea to visit the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, and the Empire State Building.
Radio City Music Hall has tours that you can go on- none of which are in the slightest boring. I'd highly suggest to take a visit there.
And then, of course, there's 5th Avenue. Even if you don't have enough money to actually purchase anything from one of the shops there, it's a lot of fun to go through the high-end stores, and see where the famous scene from 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' was shot.
