PS3 Only has one hdmi output how can i run hdmi to my receiver and my hd t.v.?
Can my sterio receiver have an hdmi output to send the picture signal back to my t.v.?
Receivers cannot use the audio signal from a HDMI cable due to the HDCP encryption that was mandated by the idiots in Hollywood.
So even if your receiver has a HDMI input/output, it only acts as a pass-thru - just like any other video input. If you want surround sound from your PS3 or other HDMI device, you still must use a separate optical audio cable. The only reason to plug the HDMI cable into your receiver is so that the receiver can act as a switch between your different sources.
Some TVs have an optical audio output. This allows them to split the digital audio signal from the HDMI cable, and send it back to your receiver for surround sound. If your TV has this capability, just connect the PS3 directly to the TV, and the optical audio cable to your receiver.
