How can I repair a table lamp that got damaged?
My wife had both lamps on and she heard the one start popping; she went out to see a bit of smoke coming from the lamp and quickly turned off the power. Turns out, when I removed the black and burnt bulb, that the bottom of the bulb burnt up and corroded the entire area where the bulb screws in. I removed this piece, and see that the electrical cord even burnt up about 2 inches down. This is a fairly new lamp and never had a problem in the past. Is there some type of kit to buy to replace these damaged pieces? How hard of a repair project is this? Thanks for any advice, as I am going to have to replace this asap or else...
Yes, but if it is fairly new, I would contact the store from where it was purchased to see if there maybe was a recall because since you have two, the other may do the same thing. HUGE FIRE HAZARD! Even if there isn't a recall on it, they can tell you how to get in touch with the manufacturer to find out more info for repairing. Also you can buy a complete lamp kit at your local fabric/craft store. Also most Trustworthy or Ace hardware stores have them also. They are quite universal, depending on the bulb size, so take it apart first and take it with you just in case.
